HICKORY – BROOKLYN TO PORT HEADLAND AND PERTHBack to all work
Our client approached us after experiencing damages to around 30% of modules on a previous movement project from Melbourne to Perth which significantly increased their installation costs and caused delays.
We sat down with the client and used lean thinking to identify all of the risks and collaboratively decided that the best outcome for the process was a flat rate turnkey price per module, which greatly reduced the cost and risk for the client for this project.
LIFT looked at alternative options from Victoria to Western Australia with a focus on ensuring no damages and making delivery to meet the installation schedule. We identified Coastal Ocean Freight as the most effective form of mobilisation from Melbourne to Perth and Port Hedland and drew up the full chartering, planning and stowage plan.
No charter vessel operator would charter using standard liner terms, hook to hook. We overcame this significant challenge by completing a bare boat charter so that we could work with the client on all loading and lashing plans to ensure the damage-free arrival of all the modules.
A confined space loading of the modules was accomplished by ensuring “feet” were installed and welded to the deck of the vessel. This also allowed securing to ensure no damages during transit. Our Ocean Freight strategy was extremely successful and the client enjoyed reduced mobilisation and installation costs as all the modules were delivered damage-free and on time.
